60 minutes of activity a day is recommended to maintain good health for children

Get active

The 5-a-day message is now well ingrained in the public conscience but are we as clear about how much activity we need to do to maintain good health?

The answer- children should do 60 minutes activity a day and adults 30 minutes around five times a week. The activity needs to be rigorous enough to make you a little out of breath and raise the body temperature.

The good news is that these minutes do not have to be collated in one daily hit so 6 x 10 minutes of activity will suffice for children and these can be built into daily routines such as walking to school.

Active Kids is about an approach to sport and fitness that is inclusive and allows everybody in the family to enjoy themselves and take part in health-promoting physical activity. This section gives us a chance to share ideas and generally chat about topical issues regarding participation. Feel free to contact us should you wish to explore any of these ideas in more detail and we are more than happy to come to your group, organisation, school or workplace to facilitate a workshop on children's active health.
